Armed with a diploma in Business Studies from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I joined RSM Chio Lim, the CPA services division of Chio Lim Stone Forest, as an Audit Assistant - a freshie.
That was 20 years ago. And I embarked on the ACCA, probably one of the best decisions I've made in my life. What started as a job soon became a career. Sure, juggling tight work schedules and stressful exams was no laughing matter, but the classroom workshops, coupled with on-the-job training gave me the experiences necessary to mould me into who I am today.
From a humble audit assistant, I've gone on to leading entire audit teams in audit planning, client management, billing & collection, resource management and staff training. And now, I am an Executive Director of the accounting services division of Chio Lim Stone Forest. I am responsible for growing the business, client satisfaction, service quality as well as staff training and development.
I mould and develop staff to assume managerial roles in the company and help them meet their personal career development objectives.
I'm faced with new challenges everyday. And I am thankful for that. I feel lucky to hold a job where I get to work with people - people with different business issues to resolve, unique propositions to address. Helping them out gives me the greatest sense of satisfaction.
Seeing the company grow from a small audit practice to a globally connected firm, a firm that is able to provide one-stop business advisory services, from company set-up to assisting companies venture overseas or even to be listed on the stock exchange, is nothing short of an exciting journey. And it's good that one thing never changed here - the people.
The relationships and trust I've established with both colleagues and clients throughout the years is something I most cherish. The people who had shared and taught me well are still around. Their hair slightly grayer than before, but their smiles still radiate as I have remembered.
